God Doesn’t Need Me

Apr 19, 2021
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. God doesn’t need little ole’ me, but he wants little ole’ me. He doesn’t need my help, my two-cents, or my feedback. I am not entitled to God’s time or favor. He gives me blessings and unending accessibility out of love. He decides to fill my lungs with air as he sees fit. There’s nothing I could possibly add to creation that he hasn’t already made with intentionality and power. When I was a young girl, I would dream of creating a brand new color hue. I soon came to the realization that God had long ago created every base color imaginable so no combination would ever truly be original. The grand notion of God contradicts those who believe that matter is eternal and therefore has no creator. It also contradicts those who believe that God was part of everything already and simply could not have created himself. I know, however, that God made the world and everything in it. That he is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. I know that he lacks nothing. He gives me life and breath and everything I need is found in him. This is true and evident throughout scripture and in my life. God reveals himself in my conscience and I see him throughout the physical world. In fact, I’m glad I’m not my own ruler. Unlike God, I would disappoint. Underneath his power and authority, we are all created equal. We all come from Adam. I believe the sooner I relinquish the lie that I’m in control, the better off I’ll be. God is the point of my life and the very thing to fill my hearts’ chasm. He doesn’t need me, or anything I could offer, but he wants me and he pursues me. For that alone, I’m grateful.
