Guest Blog: 40 Feet of Faith

Nov 11, 2017

I remember going to sleep each night my husband was away, just longing for his side of the bed to be warm.

Rachel Janous

This was 2014.  Along with being a wife, I was the mother of a 3 yr old, 2 yr old, and a newborn. I knew my hardworking, Godly man was traveling frequently to provide for his family.

But I still missed him.

40 Feet of Faith

The kids would say something silly, hit a milestone, or have a meltdown for the fifth time, and I wanted to laugh about it with my husband, to celebrate these times with him, and sometimes I just wanted him to wrap his arms around me so I could cry.

After a year of longing…..I decided our family needed a change.

Instead of looking like the “normal” family, instead of being the homemaker of a 2,000 sq ft house, instead of taking our kids to preschool twice a week, and instead of having a daily routine that didn’t include their father…. we needed to challenge the norm, take a huge leap of faith, and dare to be a little crazy.

In July of 2016 we moved our family of 5 into a 40 ft RV.

Not the bunkhouse, full fridge, two bathrooms, with washer/dryer kind….

More like the one bed, one bathroom kind that was made for a 70 year old retired couple. For one year, we committed to live in that RV.  For better or worse. Until our lease ran out – or our sanity – whichever happened first.

You see the life we had been living was hard. I did not approach my husband with the crazy idea to go mobile because, I thought it was going to be easy. I knew it was also going to be hard. Maybe even harder.

It was the kind of hard I wanted to tackle as a family – with God leading the way.

Janous Five

During this crazy year, my marriage was strengthened, my children became best friends, my family went from being made up of 5 individuals to one team we named ‘The Janous 5’ and my relationship with God has never been stronger!

We took a gigantic leap of faith to get our priorities in order and God was faithful in honoring our family’s intentions.

Hebrews 11:6 states, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

I encourage you to examine the life you are living. Are you stuck in a routine that is not providing fruit for you, your family, those around you, and/or His kingdom?

Is there a leap of faith you are afraid to take?

Life is going to be hard. You must choose which kind of hard you are going to embrace with God at your side. He will never forsake you. You are His child and you are so loved. Have faith and leap!
